Calmly Writer
A simple, free online text editor
Most text editors bury your words under toolbars, panels and pop-ups. Calmly Writer is the opposite: a clean page that opens instantly, saves as you type and gets out of the way — no signup, no installation.

Just you and the text
No ribbons, no sidebars, no blinking icons. The interface stays hidden until you need it: select text and a small formatting bar appears; move the mouse away and it is gone. Focus mode goes one step further and dims everything except the paragraph you are writing.
If all you want is a blank page to think on, this is it.
Dark mode and night-friendly themes
Six themes change the whole mood of the page: Light, Dark, pure-black Black for writing at night, Sea, the warm paper tones of Dune, and Old School. Pick the font (serif, sans-serif or monospaced), the text width, the size and the line spacing — then forget the settings exist.
Opens and saves .txt, .md, .docx and .html
Calmly Writer is a real text editor, not a walled garden. It opens and saves plain text .txt, markdown .md, Word .docx and .html files. The online version auto-saves to your browser as you type and lets you export your document as plain text, Markdown, Word or HTML whenever you want.
No signup. No ads. No AI.
Open the editor and start typing — no account, no email, no cookie walls. Your text is stored in your own browser, not on our servers, so what you write stays yours. And there is no AI assistant rewriting, suggesting or reading anything: just a quiet page and your own words.
Word count, goals and markdown
A live word counter and writing goals keep track of your progress without nagging you. And although it looks like a plain text editor, it understands markdown: type ## Heading or **bold** and see the formatted result as you write — see the markdown editor page for details.
In your browser or as an app
The online text editor is free and runs in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and other browsers. The app for Windows, Mac, Linux and Android adds permanent backups, version history, PDF export and full offline work — paying once, with no subscription.
